01The story
Shizuka means quiet in Japanese, and quiet is the first thing you notice here. The house sits on its own lot with its own driveway, and the day centers on a glass-walled dining room that looks straight onto the lawn.
How it came to be
We invested in this home after two generations of a Japanese family had lived in it. When I first walked in, I felt the history of the property, and all through the renovation we wanted to keep that culture.
We designed the bathroom with Zen in mind, and we repurposed some of the doors on purpose, so the wood carries through the house and mixes with modern and cozy. We spent a lot of time choosing the tiles, which came from France, especially for the bathroom and the floors. The interiors are by Tammy, chief designer at Cozy Palette.
What I love most is how quiet it is. There's a giant patio, complete privacy and your own little driveway. It's super comfortable, and private.
