The story

About Lulala Lemon Tea

The inspiration

Lulala Lemon Tea grew out of a trunk pop-up: co-founder Dia Zhao started selling perfume lemon iced teas from the back of his Tesla in mid-2024 at the night market that formed outside San Gabriel Superstore1 . There he met stinky tofu vendor Chris Wang, and the two partnered to open a brick-and-mortar shop pairing Chinese night-market drinks and snacks for a wider LA audience1 .

Who's behind it

Dia Zhao, a Shanghai native, co-founded the shop and prepares the hand-crushed perfume lemon teas, sourcing fruit from Hong Kong imports and his own San Bernardino orchards1 . Chris Wang, from Changsha in Hunan province, makes Changsha-style stinky tofu entirely from scratch, from soaking fresh soybeans to fermenting in live-culture brine1 .

What people are saying

Eater's Kristie Hang credits Lulala as the city's first shop devoted to specialty perfume lemon tea and stinky tofu, and describes the drinks as zesty and bursting with citrus1 . Dining and Cooking highlights the hand-crushed lemons and the tofu's careful from-scratch fermentation, calling it a bold street-style snack rarely done with this much care in LA2 . The shop's bright room lined with anime figures and faux greenery gives the visit a casual, playful feel1 .

Why you should try it

If you're staying nearby in the San Gabriel Valley, this is a rare chance to taste two Chinese street favorites made the traditional way, side by side1,2 . Order the oolong lemon tea with a plate of stinky tofu and you have a proper night-market pairing without leaving San Gabriel1 .
