Tacos El Toro

The inspiration

Tacos El Toro exists to serve tacos al vapor, the Jalisco steamed-taco tradition, done the way a specialist does it: meats slow-steamed until the collagen breaks down, chopped to order, and served hot¹ . Owner Benjamin Padilla came up in that world and built his cart around a vaporera, the Mexican steaming vessel that keeps the beef tender, with a chopping block and a tortilla rack designed to catch the beefy steam¹ .

Who's behind it

Benjamin Padilla comes from a family of taqueros in Arandas, Jalisco, and learned the craft as a teenager working in taquerías¹ . He arrived in Los Angeles in 2012, worked with a local taquero, and opened Tacos El Toro in 2019 in East LA before bringing it to Whittier^1,2 .
