The story

About Canyon Lake Equestrian Center

The inspiration

The Canyon Lake Equestrian Center exists as an exclusive boarding and training amenity for Canyon Lake property owners who enjoy horses and riding1 . The facility sits on seven acres near the community's North Gate entrance at 29221 Longhorn Drive, with arenas, stalls and riding trails for members1 .

Who's behind it

The center is run by the Canyon Lake Property Owners Association, and its manager for more than three decades was Luis Martinez, who joined the POA in February 1991 after working as a groundskeeper at a thoroughbred ranch in Hemet2 . The POA's current manager is Michael Sturdivan, who also serves as staff liaison to the Equestrian Work Group, a volunteer committee that advises on facility improvements, safety and member engagement3 .

What people are saying

Canyon Lake Insider has highlighted the dedication of the center's longtime manager, noting that horse owners marked his retirement with a party at the center to thank him for his care of the animals2 . Local coverage also keeps coming back to the facility's condition and growth, including a 2026 arena footing refresh across all three arenas and the round pen to improve ride quality and safety, which the POA board approved at its January 6, 2026 meeting4,5 . The community dimension gets attention too, with the center's inaugural Hooves and Holly holiday event, featuring barn tours and photos with a horse, covered by Canyon Lake Insider6 .

Why you should try it

If you are staying in Canyon Lake as a guest of a property owner, the equestrian center is a rare gated-community amenity, with a 17-stall barn, outdoor pipe stalls, three arenas, a round pen, a hot walker and easy access to surrounding public trails1 .
