The story

About Lordsburg Taphouse & Grill

The inspiration

Lordsburg Taphouse & Grill takes its name from La Verne's original identity: the town of Lordsburg, established in 1887 by Isaac W Lord after he convinced the Santa Fe Railroad to run its line through the area1,2 . The restaurant honors that history with black and white photos and orange grove decor that pay homage to the city's citrus-era past3,4 .

Who's behind it

The restaurant was opened in June 2013 by Mike and Britt McAdams, a couple who had been regular customers at T Phillips Alehouse, the previous restaurant in the space, for 14 years before taking it over3 . Britt McAdams described the eatery as a tribute to the city of La Verne, with everything in it reflecting the town5 .

What to order

Popular dish

La Verne Burger1

the house specialty, topped with caramelized red onion bacon jam, Gorgonzola and garlic aioli on a brioche bun .

  • Lordsburg Nachos: homemade tortilla chips under cheddar and jack, chili beans, guacamole and all the fixings .1
  • Burgers in general: the kitchen uses Harris Ranch beef, a point of pride since opening .1,5
  • Any of the 61 taps: the bar pours 61 beers, including more than 20 rotating handles for the craft beer crowd .1

What people are saying

Diners and writers keep returning to the beer selection, with a rotating craft lineup that changes constantly and leans into the Southern California scene6,1 . The warm, neighborhood feel comes up too, with the same writer describing the place as the city's living room6,1 .

Why you should try it

Set in a former citrus packing shed in the heart of Old Town La Verne, it is a comfortable spot to grab a bite and a pint while surrounded by the town's own history4,1 . Between the big tap list, the burgers and the easygoing, family-friendly vibe, it works equally well for lunch, a game on TV or a casual night out3,1 .
