About Civitas Coffee
The inspiration
Civitas Coffee opened in La Mirada in February 2019 with the goal of becoming a community centerpiece, filling a local gap for quality coffee and tea1,2 .
Who's behind it
Founder Katherine Sulmien Kim was born in Seoul and moved to Los Angeles as a child, studied hospitality and restaurant management at Le Cordon Bleu, and spent years managing in coffee and corporate roles, including The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and NYX-L'Oreal3,4 . She opened the shop with Daniel Kim, whose background is in coffee distribution1,2 .
