The story

About Two Strike Park

The inspiration

Dennis Morgan, a movie star who was then La Crescenta's honorary mayor, decided to keep it at two strikes by giving local children a safe place to play1 . The park is the direct result of that idea, built on land he helped assemble and fund through celebrity baseball games2,3 .

Who's behind it

Dennis Morgan was a popular film actor of the 1940s and 50s, known for roles opposite stars like Barbara Stanwyck and Ginger Rogers, and he served as honorary mayor of the Crescenta Valley while living in La Cañada2,3,1 . In 1949, representing Two Strike Series, Inc., he offered to donate a 5-acre piece of land if the County would purchase adjoining acreage, and in 1950 the Board of Supervisors added 3.54 acres to complete the parcel2 . He also left his mark on the area as the founder of the Montrose Christmas Parade3,1 .

What people are saying

The county describes it as a favorite with La Crescenta residents, with plenty of green space for children and as a popular spot for family picnics and wedding photos2 . MomsLA calls it a local family favorite, pointing to the open space for running and catch games plus basketball courts and large children's play structures with age-appropriate sections4 .

Why you should try it

If you're staying nearby, this is an easy stop for a picnic, a pickup basketball game, or an afternoon letting kids loose on one of the area's larger play structures2,4,5 . It also carries a genuinely fun piece of local history, a park funded by Hollywood celebrities playing comedy baseball against big leaguers3,1 .
