When freeway improvements to State Routes 57 and 60 required about ten acres of the property, Los Angeles County chose not to simply close the course but to rethink and upgrade the whole layout1 . The county-owned public course reopened in April 2024 with redesigned greens and bunkers, new irrigation, and a fresh practice area, keeping its full 6,801-yard length2,1 . It sits at the corner of three Southern California counties, making it a convenient escape from city life for golfers from Los Angeles, Orange County and the Inland Empire3 .
The original course was designed by William F Bell, one of the twentieth century's most prolific golf architects, and opened in 19633,1 . Local course architect Casey O'Callaghan led the 2024 renovation, rebuilding every tee, bunker and green while keeping the same par and yardage1,4 . The county's Department of Parks and Recreation administers the facility, with American Golf Corporation running operations under a long-term lease2 .

six holes were reconfigured for the freeway project, with rerouted holes that keep play flowing .
Locals and regulars who play the course say it is better than ever after the renovation, and community residents wandered by during the closure to track the progress1 . General Manager Mark Kuramoto has noted heavy demand for tee times since reopening, along with returning golfers eager to see the changes1 . Kuramoto also says non-golf traffic is up thanks to a revised restaurant menu, with families and local workers coming in to eat1 .
If you're staying nearby, this is a recently renovated 18-hole par-72 course with wide fairways, large quick greens and mountain views, just minutes from the 57, 60, 71, 10 and 210 freeways3 . After your round, the clubhouse cafe and bar offer patio seating with those same vistas, plus a pro shop stocked with leading brands3 .
