The story

About Altadena Cookie Co.

Altadena Cookie Co. began in 2020 as a cottage business run out of two home kitchens, when two friends decided their pandemic-era cookie habit should become a real venture1,2,3 . The idea has always been tied to place: the shop's flavors are rooted in neighborhood stories, and the founders describe feeding their community as the point of the whole thing1,4,2 . After the Eaton Fire destroyed equipment and a founder's home, they rebuilt and reopened in November 2025, seeing the bakery as a way to give the town what co-founder Michelle Taylor calls edible hugs4,3,5 .

They started with decorate-your-own cookie kits sold from home, then expanded to farmers markets before opening their brick-and-mortar shop on North Lincoln Avenue2,3 . The two frost and decorate every cookie themselves4 .

  • Fluffernutter: a peanut butter cookie studded with gooey mini marshmallows .6
  • Cookie brittle: a sweet-savory bark built from potato chips, pretzels and coffee grounds .6
  • Chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, lemon crinkle or rum raisin: the case staples, each built from its own base recipe rather than one dough with mix-ins .1
  • Soft serve or a cookie cake: the shop also turns out custom iced sugar cookies for birthdays and holidays .1

Eater's Cathy Chaplin calls the cookies destination-worthy and singles out the Mayan crinkle and brittle as the ones to get6 . The reopening itself drew crowds of neighbors who told the owners the shop gave them hope after the fire2 .

This is a bakery you can settle into rather than just grab and go: there is a lending library of the owners' cookbooks, local art on the walls, a window onto the kitchen, and even a Ms Pac-Man machine1,6 . For a visitor in the area, it is a chance to taste cookies made with real intent, in a shop that has become a small symbol of Altadena's recovery6,4,3 .
