Gallery Nucleus

The inspiration

Nucleus opened in October 2004 because its founder saw almost no galleries devoted to illustration, animation, and entertainment art, and wanted a place where industry artists could gather, show their work, or simply hang out^1,2 . The gallery's stated aim is to spotlight the talented creators behind the works people love, emphasizing animation, games, narrative art, and entertainment design³ . It started partly as a way to showcase the artwork of the founder's friends and grew into a much bigger venture representing this segment of the commercial arts⁴ .

Who's behind it

Ben Zhu is the founder, owner, and curator, and he had been living in Alhambra while commuting to a job as a background and concept artist on the Call of Duty franchise^1,2,4 . He grew up loving art, comics, animation, and games, and left the game industry in 2004 to start the gallery^2,4 .
